University of Nairobi is located at the heart of Nairobi city. Academically it’s ranked position one in Kenya and East Africa.
UoN have been succumbed by many demonstrations and strikes within the last 5 years. These demos have been termed as fighting for justice from the administration.
In 2015 students demonstrated because of HELB disbursement delay.
After few months SONU elections was conducted on 1st April which was followed by a great strike and demonstration with an allegation of Rigging by contenders. During the demo, SONU office was set ablaze into inferno.
Also not to forget students burnt a hostel, allegedly known as preferb.
University of Nairobi was thereafter closed indefinately and Students involved were expelled and later re-opened on 3rd may 2016. But by this time there were rules sets which could be followed.ie: No cooking in hostels.
Amazingly on 14th may 2016 students began causing chaos and later on demonstrated over the rules placed by staff that there was no cooking in the houses of residence.
Students are still waiting for justice
